QUETTA: Balochistan Chief Minister (CM) Mir Sarfraz Bugti announced plans to fully depoliticize the police and levies force, aiming to enhance their ability to safeguard citizens and uphold the rule of law throughout the province.
Bugti instructed the IG Police from the floor of the assembly to appoint SPs, DPOs, and SHOs based on merit and suggested calling police officers from other provinces for postings in Balochistan if necessary.
The CM stated that no member of the assembly or politician would interfere in the police department’s affairs or request the posting of favored SPs and SHOs.
Addressing the Provincial Assembly, Sarfraz Bugti stated that the government would maintain the tenure of police officers as long as they do not infringe on the privileges of parliamentarians or the self-respect of common citizens.
“We are depoliticizing and providing a free environment, and we will also maintain accountability in the police department,” Sarfraz Bugti added.
The chief minister stated that the police would be equipped with modern tools and provided with facilities, as crime prevention is the government’s top priority.
Sarfraz Bugti directed the IG Police to launch operations in collaboration with the Levies force against organized crime and to ensure security on national highways to curb lawlessness in the province.
He stated that the province is facing the challenges of terrorism, with terrorists launching an organized RAW-driven war against the country and the province.
A systematic conspiracy against Pakistan has been initiated, with one group using violence in Balochistan and another group defaming state institutions through social media, Bugti added.
Sarfraz Bugti said terrorists were involved in killing over 4,000 innocent people, extorting mine owners, and torturing local residents.
The Balochistan CM called for a special debate session and an in-camera briefing in the house on the issue of terrorism.
Meanwhile, Sarfraz Bugti stated that the digital terrorists spreading fake propaganda aim to create a divide between state institutions and the public, but anti-state elements will not succeed in their nefarious designs.
