KARACHI: The Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) has announced a shutdown of gas supply to nearly half of Karachi, the country’s economic hub, for 24 hours on July 28, 2024 starting Sunday morning.
The temporary shutdown is due to the installation of a new pipeline in the western part of the city.
In a statement, the gas utility announced that it will be conducting hook-ups for a 24″ diameter, 31-kilometer pipeline from SMS ACPL to DMS Surjani in Karachi.
“To complete this essential task, gas will be temporarily shut down from Sunday (July 28, 2024, at 5 am) until Monday (July 29, 2024, at 5 am).”
Due to the planned shutdown, areas in the western region, including Surjani Town (all sectors), North Karachi (all sectors), Manghopir Town, Qasba Town, Orangi Town (all sectors), North Nazimabad (all blocks), FB Area (all blocks), Gulberg (all blocks), Buffer Zone, SITE Industrial Area, Baldia Town, Ittehad Town, and Mauripur will be impacted.
As per a statement, the development work may also affect gas supply in the central part of the city, including Gulshan-e-Maymar, Ahsanabad, Janjar Goth, and SITE Super Highway.
The company built the dedicated pipeline with an investment of Rs3.86 billion, aiming to supply gas at the required high pressure to industrial areas while continuing to provide fuel at low pressure to homes and businesses in the region.
“The project will separate low-pressure domestic and commercial consumers from high-pressure industrial consumers in the SITE and Hub Industrial Areas.”
