QUETTA: Authorities have announced the suspension of mobile phone and internet services in Quetta, the capital city of Balochistan, on Muharram 7 and 10 as a security precaution, As per media report.
Balochistan’s Home Minister, Meer Ziaullah Langau, has confirmed that mobile phone and internet services will be suspended from 6 AM to midnight on Muharram 7 and 10 in Quetta.
Faithful across the country conducted processions and held majalis during Muharram to commemorate the martyrdom of Hazrat Imam Hussain.
The government has imposed section 144 across seven districts of the province from Muharram 1 to 10 to ensure strict security measures and prevent any untoward incidents.
Earlier this month, the federal government approved the deployment of the Pakistan Army and Civil Armed Forces (CAF) nationwide to ensure security during Muharram.
The Ministry of Interior issued a notification stating that the government had requested military deployment to maintain law and order across the country.
As per the notification, it was stated that “The date for de-requisitioning of the deployment will be decided subsequently after mutual consultation among all stakeholders.”
