ISLAMABAD: The Prime Minister has directed the withdrawal of the decision to increase the price for consumers who consume up to 200 units of electricity per month.
According to sources, the federal government has proposed withdrawing the proposed increase in tariff to provide relief to protected and non-protected electricity consumers using 200 units per month.
As per media reports, the government will provide a subsidy of about 50 billion rupees to ease tariffs from July to September 2024 for consumers using 200 units per month.
The federal cabinet had earlier approved an increase in the basic electricity tariff by 7 rupees 12 paise per unit.
Before that, the cabinet had also approved a price increase for protected and non-protected consumers up to 200 units, with an increase of Rs 3.95 per unit approved for protected customers using 1 to 100 units, and an increase of Rs 4.10 per unit for those using 101 to 200 units.
According to the report, non-protected consumers using up to 100 units per month saw an increase of 7.11 rupees per unit, while those using 101 to 200 units per month faced an increase of 7.12 rupees per unit.
Previously, it was reported that the increase in the basic tariff would take effect from July 1, 2024. Lifeline users consuming up to 50 units per month would face a tariff increase of 3.95 rupees, while those using 51 to 100 units would see a tariff increase of 7.74 rupees.
According to the latest reports, the government has withdrawn the decision to increase prices for consumers using 200 units per month.
