Federal government announces 22,000 bikes for women under PM’s strategic reform initiatives

ISLAMABAD: The federal government on Tuesday announced it will provide 22,000 motorbikes to women nationwide under the Prime Minister Strategic Reform Initiatives for Women’s Mobility – Women on Wheels.

According to the Economic Survey launched, the objective of the project costing Rs 4,476.17 million is to enhance women’s accessibility and mobility by providing motorcycles and scooties at subsidized prices.

Women from Islamabad, Punjab, Sindh, Balochistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Gilgit-Baltistan are eligible to apply for the scheme.

As per the survey, this initiative will benefit women working in government or semi-government institutions, as well as businesswomen, students, teachers, and healthcare professionals.

As directed by federal government, the National Commission on the Status of Women (NCSW) will implement the program.

The women will receive motorcycles on a monthly payment basis of between Rs. 2,500 and Rs. 3,000. The distribution of the scooters will occur from August to November.

Previously, the Chief Minister of Punjab Maryam Nawaz launched the project to provide 20,000 bikes under the Chief Minister Youth Initiative for students throughout the province.

With this initiative led by Punjab Chief, Maryam Nawaz Sharif, students can obtain motorcycles and e-bikes through convenient monthly installment plans. Male students have the option to pay Rs 11,676 per month, while female students can avail the offer at Rs 7,325 per month.

The initiative, scheduled to be implemented gradually, will start in major cities such as Faisalabad, Multan, Bahawalpur, Rawalpindi, and Lahore.
