A controversial YouTuber, Adil Raja, faced a significant fine of £10,000 from the UK High Court on Sunday. The court upheld rulings against Raja in the defamation case brought by Brigadier (Retired) Rashid Nasir.
Raja’s appeals to dismiss the defamation case were unsuccessful, leading to the court’s decision to impose fines for contempt of court, as well as ordering him to cover legal costs and security expenses.
In nine social media publications across platforms like YouTube, Facebook, and Twitter/X, Raja made defamatory remarks against Rashid Naseer. The UK High Court judge dismissed all of Raja’s requests.
Deputy High Court Judge Richard Spearman directed Raja to pay £5,000 to the applicant, with a deadline set for April 17, 2024, for the fine payment. Raja, accompanied by his lawyer and PTI UK leader Mehtab Anwar Aziz, attended the court proceedings via video link.
The court deemed Raja’s allegations against Brigadier (Retired) Rashid Nasir unfounded and demanded evidence to support his claims.
Additionally, Raja’s requests for a security deposit of £150,000 and confidentiality for witnesses were both denied. Raja initiated a campaign against the Pakistan army officer through social media platforms in June 2022, prompting Rashid to file a case through his UK lawyers on August 11, 2022.
