ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif directed a thorough joint investigation into the Besham terrorist attack on Chinese nationals working on the Dassu Hydel Power Project, utilizing all state resources.
Offering deepest condolences to the victims’ families, he assured swift justice for the perpetrators of this barbaric act.
Chairing a high-level emergency meeting following the Besham terrorist attack, the Prime Minister commended the prompt response of law enforcement agencies and locals, which saved many lives. Federal Ministers, the Chief of the Army Staff, Chief Ministers, Chief Secretaries, and Inspector Generals of Police of respective provinces attended the meeting, as per a PM Office press release.

The meeting extensively discussed the attack on civilians involved in a development project aimed at enhancing Pakistan’s energy and water security.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif emphasized the enduring bond between Pakistan and China, expressing the nation’s sadness over the loss of Chinese lives. He highlighted terrorism as a transnational threat used by enemies to hinder Pakistan’s progress, especially targeting Pakistan-China friendship.
Participants reaffirmed their commitment to eradicate terrorism from the country and expressed concerns about terrorist sanctuaries across borders, emphasizing the need for a regional approach to counter terrorism.

The Chief of the Army Staff reiterated the armed forces’ determination to eliminate terrorism, noting Pakistan’s resilience in fighting the war on terror over the past two decades. Despite a recent increase in terrorist incidents, he asserted Pakistan’s resolve to ensure the safety of all citizens, especially Chinese nationals contributing to Pakistan’s prosperity.
The meeting concluded with a strong commitment to combat terrorism comprehensively, utilizing all available state resources.
