ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Judicial Council (SJC) declared on Thursday that former Supreme Court justice Mazahar Ali Akbar Naqvi had engaged in misconduct.
In a concise announcement on Thursday, the highest judicial authority stated that the former judge, who faced multiple allegations, had committed misconduct and “ought to have been dismissed from the position of Judge.”
Last month, Justice (retd) Naqvi resigned from his position amid accusations of misconduct, a move that surprised many. His resignation was followed by the resignation of Justice (retd) Ijazul Ahsan the next day, prompting speculation about their sudden departure.
In his resignation letter, the former judge stated: “[…] given the circumstances, which are widely known to the public and partly documented, it is no longer feasible for me to continue serving as a Judge of the Supreme Court of Pakistan. Principles of fair process also demand this.”
