ISLAMABAD : In a dramatic escalation of regional tensions, Pakistan today confirmed conducting a series of “highly coordinated and specifically targeted” military strikes against terrorist hideouts in the Sistan-o-Baluchistan province of neighboring Iran.
The operation, codenamed “Marg Bar Sarmachar”, aimed to eliminate Pakistani-origin terrorists operating in the region under the alias “Sarmachars,” according to a press release issued by the Pakistani Foreign Ministry.
The statement acknowledges years of Pakistani efforts to raise concerns with Iran about the “safe havens” allegedly enjoyed by these militants within its borders. Despite sharing “multiple dossiers” with concrete evidence, Pakistan claims insufficient action was taken by Iranian authorities, necessitating today’s action.
“Pakistan has consistently highlighted its serious concerns about the presence and activities of these terrorists who spill the blood of innocent Pakistanis with impunity,” the statement reads. “This morning’s action was taken in light of credible intelligence of impending large scale terrorist activities by these so-called Sarmachars.”

The operation appears to be a stark demonstration of Pakistan’s resolve to combat terrorism originating from across its border. The Foreign Ministry asserts the action as a “manifestation of Pakistan’s unflinching resolve to protect and defend its national security against all threats,” further praising the “professionalism of the Pakistan Armed Forces” in executing the “highly complex operation.”
While acknowledging Iran’s “brotherly” status and expressing respect for its people, the statement firmly emphasizes Pakistan’s commitment to safeguarding its own sovereignty and territorial integrity. “The sole objective of today’s act was in pursuit of Pakistan’s own security and national interest which is paramount and cannot be compromised,” the statement asserts.
Despite prioritizing its own security concerns, Pakistan acknowledges its international obligations and reaffirms its commitment to the principles of the UN Charter. “As a responsible member of the international community, Pakistan upholds the principles and purposes of the UN Charter including territorial integrity and sovereignty of member states,” the statement reads.
