KARACHI: The Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) on Wednesday refuted claims that the party had entered into an agreement to support its candidate in favor of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) President Shehbaz Sharif on the NA-242 constituency in Karachi.
Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui, a leader of MQM-P, refuted the reports regarding seat adjustment in NA-242 Karachi, emphasizing, “Senior Deputy Convener Mustafa Kamal is running as the MQM-P candidate from the constituency.”
Earlier, it had been reported that MQM-P had established a seat adjustment arrangement with PML-N for three NA constituencies, including NA-242, where PML-N President Shehbaz Sharif is also contesting the elections.
Sources informed on Tuesday that besides Shehbaz, PML-N plans to nominate its candidates for five NA seats — NA-229, 230, and 239 — and 11 provincial assembly seats within these constituencies.
Meanwhile, MQM-P candidates are set to contest elections for the national and provincial assembly seats from Malir’s NA-231 constituency, as per the sources.
They further revealed that the Karachi-based party intends to field its candidates on the provincial seats within the NA-242 constituency.
On December 29, Shehbaz Sharif had declared his nomination papers for the upcoming general elections from Karachi’s NA-242 constituency, where Mustafa Kamal had also submitted his documents.
