RAWALPINDI: At least 23 soldiers were martyred when a team of six terrorists assaulted a security forces’ post in the Daraban area of Dera Ismail Khan during the early hours of December 12, 2023, according to a statement by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) released on Tuesday.
The military’s media wing reported that the terrorists’ attempt to breach the post was foiled, compelling them to resort to a tactic of driving an explosive-laden vehicle into the post, followed by a suicide bombing.
“The subsequent explosions caused the building to collapse, resulting in multiple casualties; 23 courageous soldiers were martyred, while all six terrorists were effectively engaged and neutralized,” stated the ISPR.
In the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa district, escalated activities were observed on the night of December 11 and 12, culminating in the elimination of 27 terrorists across various operations, as confirmed by the ISPR.
“In a specific intelligence-based operation conducted in the Darazinda area, 17 terrorists were eliminated after their hideout was discovered,” the ISPR mentioned in a statement.
Furthermore, four terrorists were neutralized in another intelligence-based operation in the Kulachi area of the district following effective engagement by troops.
“Regrettably, during an intense exchange of fire, two valiant soldiers, who fought bravely, embraced martyrdom,” it added.
The ISPR noted that the eliminated terrorists were actively engaged in numerous attacks against security forces and innocent civilians.
“Additionally, weapons, ammunition, and explosives were seized during these operations.”
Ongoing sanitization efforts are underway to root out any remaining terrorists in the area, reflecting the steadfast determination of Pakistan’s security forces to eradicate the scourge of terrorism from the country. The sacrifices made by our courageous soldiers further fortify our resolve, emphasized the military’s media wing.
