RAWALPINDI: The area of Islamabad International Airport in Attock District has been included in the limits of Naseerabad Police Station, Rawalpindi, after the administration clarified the jurisdictional limits between Attock District and Rawalpindi. This issue arose after the New Islamabad International Airport became operational.
The airport’s runway, ASF Colony, parking area, main terminal, and a 3-kilometer funnel area, along with five locations in Fateh Jang, have now been included in the limits of Naseerabad Police Station, Rawalpindi. The Home Department has also sent official letters to the Commissioner, RPO Rawalpindi, Deputy Commissioner, and police heads regarding the change.
The New Islamabad International Airport, known as the first greenfield airport of the federal capital, is located across three districts: Rawalpindi, Islamabad, and Attock. After the airport started operating, the jurisdiction spread across three districts, creating legal issues. As a temporary measure, the airport terminal and runway were placed under the jurisdiction of the New Airport Police Station in Attock.
However, local administrations forwarded the case to the Punjab government for a permanent solution. Recently, the Punjab Cabinet’s Standing Committee on Law and Order approved the resolution of the jurisdiction issue. Following this, the Home Department issued a notification, directing that the airport’s areas, including the runway, ASF Colony, parking, main terminal, and funnel area, which were previously under the New Airport Police Station in Attock, will now fall under the jurisdiction of Naseerabad Police Station in Rawalpindi.
