ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has raised questions about President Dr. Arif Alvi’s sense of urgency regarding a recently received letter.
During an informal exchange with reporters, Shahbaz Sharif indicated that a decision on the interim prime minister’s appointment will likely be reached either tonight or within the next day.
Sharif suggested that the President ought to have familiarized himself with the Constitution before composing the letter. Emphasizing his own tenure of 8 days as Prime Minister, he urged a review of the Constitutional provisions.
Expanding on his point, Shahbaz Sharif clarified that he will continue as Prime Minister until a caretaker replacement is designated. Should a decision remain elusive after 3 days, Sharif informed that the parliamentary committee will assume responsibility for resolution within that timeframe.
Should the parliamentary committee face difficulties in reaching a consensus, Shahbaz Sharif disclosed that the matter will then fall under the purview of the Election Commission.
In a further development, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif shared that he convened a meeting with all coalition partners today. He expressed his intention to engage in consultations with them concerning the matter of selecting an interim prime minister.
