YouTube, the popular video-streaming platform owned by Google, has revealed its plans to discontinue the “YouTube Stories” feature on June 26, according to an official announcement made on Thursday.

In a blog post, YouTube stated that starting from June 26, 2023, users will no longer be able to create new YouTube Stories. Additionally, any existing Stories on that date will expire after seven days from their original sharing.

Shift in Focus towards Shorts, Community Posts, and Live Videos :

The company aims to redirect its focus towards other vital aspects such as shorts, community posts, and live videos. Emphasizing the significance of these alternatives, YouTube highlighted that community posts and YouTube shorts facilitate valuable viewer connections and conversations.

Notifying Creators and Promoting Engagement :

YouTube will notify creators about the discontinuation through multiple channels, including forum posts, in-app messages, reminders in YouTube Studio, and more. With over 2.1 billion monthly users globally, YouTube suggests that creators can leverage the YouTube Community posts to share lightweight updates, initiate discussions, and promote their YouTube content to their audience effectively.

YouTubeShorts: A Better Option for Content Creation and Audience Expansion:

Regarding short video content creation and audience expansion, YouTubeShorts presents a superior option compared to Stories, as stated by the company.

YouTube observed that creators immensely benefitted from the Shorts format as its adoption grew on the platform.

A YouTube spokesperson informed TechCrunch about these changes, stating, “Stories are going away so we can prioritize key areas that creators need to be successful.

We’ll continue to invest in helping creators grow and connect with their audiences across formats.”

Youtube Shorts: Exceeding Average Subscribers

It is noteworthy that Shorts have garnered significantly more subscribers than the average content. Introduced in 2018, YouTube initially launched Stories exclusively for creators with over 10,000 subscribers.

Creators extensively used Stories to engage with their audience, offering behind-the-scenes updates, vlogs, sneak peeks of upcoming videos, quick updates, and more, as revealed by the company.
