PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has officially launched the Ehsaas Apna Ghar Scheme, aimed at providing interest-free loans to low-income families for building their own houses.
Under the leadership of Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur, a ceremony was held at the CM House where successful applicants were handed over loan cheques. Speaking at the event, Gandapur called the project a flagship initiative of the provincial government and a step towards fulfilling the vision of former Prime Minister Imran Khan to provide shelter to the underprivileged.
The provincial government has earmarked Rs4 billion for the Ehsaas Apna Ghar scheme. To maintain transparency, loans are being distributed through a computerized draw. Individuals between the ages of 18 and 65, earning less than Rs150,000 per month, are eligible to apply. Under the scheme, interest-free loans of up to Rs1.5 million will be offered, which can be repaid in easy installments over a period of seven years.
In the first phase, over 123,000 applications were received, out of which 18,555 met the eligibility criteria. Loans are being distributed across all districts based on population ratios.
