Earthquake in Islamabad and Multiple Other Cities

ISLAMABAD: According to a report by Private TV channel report on Wednesday, several cities, including Islamabad and Peshawar, were jolted by tremors of 5.7 magnitude.

The seismic shockwaves were felt across multiple regions, including Swat district and North Waziristan, with reports of similar tremors also coming in from Afghanistan’s Hindukush region.

As per the European seismic monitoring centre, the earthquake’s epicentre was located in the Hindukush region. Further details on the extent of damage caused by the earthquake are awaited.

According to Pakistan’s National Seismic Monitoring Centre, today’s earthquake had a depth of 187 kilometres, and there have been no reports of casualties.
In March, a 6.8 magnitude earthquake hit various parts of Pakistan, resulting in nine deaths and over 160 injuries, as well as causing several buildings to collapse.

The tremors were felt in Lahore, Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Quetta, Peshawar, Kohat, Lakki Marwat, and other areas of the country. The earthquake’s epicentre was in Afghanistan’s Hindu Kush region, with a depth of 180 kilometres, as per the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), similar to today’s earthquake.

In addition to the aforementioned areas, the earthquake’s effects were felt in Peshawar, Swabi, Lodhran, DG Khan, Bahawalpur, Skardu, Kohat, Toba Tek Singh, Parachinar, Nowshera, and Khanewal. Further information on the extent of the damage caused by the recent earthquake is currently unknown.
