KARACHI: The Sindh Government’s Transport Department has officially started the People’s Pink and Normal Taxi Service System for public transport.
According to details, Provincial Transport Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon said the new service was launched under the guidance of Pakistan Peoples Party Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari.
The aim of the project is to empower women, make travel safer, and promote eco-friendly transport across the province. Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon called the People’s Pink and Normal Taxi Service a “historic milestone for Sindh.”
Earlier, the Sindh government introduced measures like electric buses to improve the urban transport system. The new taxi service is part of these efforts, with the goal of providing equal travel facilities for all.
Sharjeel Memon said, “The Sindh government is committed to making the transport system not only modern but also accessible and safe for every citizen.”

The project will provide better, safer, and more affordable travel options. It will also create new economic opportunities for women, marking an important step toward a prosperous Sindh.
In a separate development, Sharjeel Memon said the provincial government is working to bring ride-hailing services in Karachi under a unified system.
During a meeting with the Transport Department, Memon stated that efforts are being made to regulate online taxi services under one framework to ensure safe, legal, and quality facilities for passengers.
Hussain Mansoor, the minister’s spokesperson, told Private media that services like Careem and Yango will be brought under a single system.

The meeting was attended by Sindh Chief Minister’s Special Assistant for Investment Qasim Naveed Qamar, Transport Secretary Asad Zamin, and Sindh Mass Transit Authority MD Kamal Dayo.
Sharjeel Memon said providing quality, safe, and eco-friendly transport is a top priority for Karachi’s residents. He also discussed plans to introduce electric vehicle (EV) taxis in Karachi, which will improve the city’s taxi system and reduce pollution.
A press release after the meeting stated that different models for providing EV taxis to the public on easy installments were also reviewed.
