LAHORE: The Blue Line Metro Train is set to become Pakistan’s first fully underground train service, as Lahore’s Transport Department works to improve travel options for the city. They have decided to launch this new project to make commuting easier for residents.
The Punjab Transport Department has started working on the feasibility study and design of the Blue Line Metro Train project. The Chief Minister has instructed the Transport Minister to complete this work soon. Once the feasibility and design report is ready, the estimated cost of the project will also be clear.
The Blue Line Train route will cover 27 kilometers. The project is expected to be completed in the next three years. It will start from Valencia Town and end at Babu Sabu Chowk. The route will pass through Johar Town, Faisal Town, Garden Town, Kalma Chowk, Gulberg Main Boulevard, Jail Road, Ferozepur Road, Wahdat Road, and Allama Iqbal Town before reaching Babu Sabu Chowk.
The Blue Line Metro Train will help more than 250,000 passengers travel daily. The estimated cost of the project could be over 600 billion rupees. Modern machinery will be used for the construction. Heavy machinery will dig tunnels and build structures up to 6 meters deep.

Financial firms from China, Japan, and France have shown interest in funding the Blue Line project. In 2016, Punjab Transport completed a study with the Japanese agency JICA and the Turkish firm Osmanlı. Another transport study was done in June 2024, which confirmed the Blue Line route as feasible. In the first study, 12 kilometers of the route were underground, but now it will be fully underground.
