ISLAMABAD: The federal government has declared September 17, 2024 (Tuesday) as a public holiday in Pakistan to observe Eid Milad un Nabi on the 12th Rabi ul Awal.
“The country will celebrate the birthday of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) on September 17, in the month of Rabi ul Awal, 1446 Hijri,” according to an official notification.
The Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee announced on Wednesday that the crescent for Rabi ul Awal was not sighted in the country; therefore, the Islamic month will begin on September 6.

The announcement was made following the moon sighting committee meeting, chaired by Maulana Abdul Khabir Azad, held in Islamabad.
“We did not receive any reports of the moon sighting, and the committee unanimously concluded that the month of Rabi ul Awal will begin on September 6 (Friday),” Maulana Azad said during a press conference after the meeting.

He stated that most parts of Pakistan experienced cloudy weather, while some areas had clear skies. However, no credible reports of moon sightings were received from any region of the country, he added.
Importantly, Muslims around the world celebrate the birth of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), called Eid Milad un Nabi, on the 12th of Rabi ul Awal, the third month of the Islamic lunar calendar.
The day is observed with public processions, events, and seminars that highlight the Seerah of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).
