ISLAMABAD: More than 100 nursing staff, recruited under the Federal Medical Teaching Institutes (FMTI) Act from Islamabad’s largest hospital, PIMS Hospital, have been dismissed and ordered to leave the hostel on verbal orders.
According to a Private Media Report, Protesting against the dismissal, the nursing staff say they are being fired with only a day’s notice, in a rude manner, despite having worked without pay for four months based on the oral promises of the hospital management to extend their contracts. Now, preparations are being made to recruit untrained individuals to replace them.
PIMS Executive Director Rana Imran Sikander states that the contracts have expired, and now the matter is stuck between the Establishment Division and the Health Department.
It should be noted that during the PTI regime, this nursing staff was recruited on a two-year contract. During the PDM regime, the tenure of the nursing staff was extended, and the extended contracts also expired in December 2023.
