Punjab Lahore: Complete List of Free WiFi Hotspots. The Punjab government has initiated free WiFi services at 50 locations as part of a pilot project endorsed by Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, aiming to enhance connectivity by providing internet access to citizens.
“Free WiFi has been activated at 50 spots in Lahore. The expansion to the rest of the city is underway. Alhamdulillah! We fulfill our promises,” stated CM Maryam in a recent social media post.
Under the supervision of the Punjab Information Technology Board (PITB), the CM sanctioned the launch of the free WiFi project in Lahore during a recent meeting.
Reports indicate that the PITB has been assigned the task of refurbishing existing infrastructure, including hotspots, to facilitate the provision of complimentary WiFi at various public venues.
Furthermore, CM Maryam has instructed IT department officials to prioritize the deployment of the service in educational institutions, airports, railway stations, and bus terminals. Ultimately, free WiFi will be available at 516 locations across Lahore.
Initially introduced by the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) government in 2013, complimentary WiFi services in Lahore and other urban areas were discontinued by the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government due to outstanding bills with internet providers.
While initially managed by the Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited (PTCL), the oversight of the service has since been assumed by the PITB.
The anticipated reinstatement of this service is poised to provide significant benefits to the public by enhancing internet accessibility at crucial points, thereby fostering connectivity and streamlining communication channels.
