US Strongly Condemns Iran’s Violation of Pakistan’s Sovereign Borders

WASHINGTON: The violation of the sovereign borders of Pakistan by Iran was strongly denounced by the United States (US) on Wednesday.

Iran recently conducted airstrikes in Pakistan, Iraq, and Syria, asserting that they were targeted at “anti-Iranian terrorist groups.”

State Department spokesman Matthew Miller expressed condemnation of these strikes, stating, “So we do condemn those strikes. We’ve seen Iran violate the sovereign borders of three of its neighbors in just the past couple of days.”

In response to the airstrike, Pakistan recalled its ambassador from Iran and prevented Tehran’s envoy from returning to Islamabad. Pakistan claimed that the attack, which resulted in the death of two children in the western part of the country, was unprovoked and a violation of its sovereignty. The raid took place late Tuesday, following similar attacks in Iraq and Syria.

Mumtaz Zahra Baloch, spokeswoman for the Pakistani foreign ministry, labeled the attack near the shared border as “unprovoked” and a breach of Pakistan’s sovereignty.

According to the Iranian news agency Mehr News, the “missile and drone” attack targeted the Pakistan headquarters of Jaish al-Adl, a group formed in 2012 and designated as a terrorist group by Iran. Jaish al-Adl has been responsible for several attacks on Iranian soil in recent years, according to Iranian reports.

Iran claimed that the other missile attacks were aimed at “spy headquarters” and “terrorist” targets in Syria, as well as in Iraq’s autonomous Kurdistan region.

These strikes occurred amid the ongoing Gaza crisis, marked by continuous Israeli bombardment in the occupied territory, and attacks by Yemen’s Iran-backed Huthi rebels on ships in the Red Sea, intensifying tensions in the Middle East.
