ISLAMABAD: Confirmation by the Ministry of Health indicates the presence of the poliovirus in environmental samples collected from nine districts across the country.
As per the Ministry of Health spokesperson, the virus was detected in single samples from Quetta, Mastung, Multan, Peshawar, Nowshera, and Hab. Additionally, poliovirus was identified in samples from Karachi Malir, Karachi South, and D.I.Khan.
The spokesperson highlighted that the virus in all samples originated from neighboring regions. Emphasizing the importance of the polio vaccine, he asserted that vaccination is the sole preventive measure against the transmission of the virus, underscoring the protection it offers to children under five years of age from polio-related disabilities.
The spokesperson urged parents to ensure their children receive the polio vaccine.
