According to a report, the resolution urged the Election Commission to halt the February 8 election schedule, citing an unfavorable environment. Reasons included the recent attack on Maulana Fazlur Rehman and threats against other political leaders.

Additionally, the resolution drew attention to the volatile situation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan due to ongoing terrorist activities. It also noted the health department’s warning about the coronavirus’s spread. The need for equal campaign rights in smaller provinces was emphasized.

Opposition to the resolution came from PML-N Senator Afnanullah Khan during the meeting, who argued against delaying the election based solely on security concerns.

Previously, the announcement for Pakistan’s general elections slated for February 8, 2024, had been made, and the submission of nomination papers had concluded.
