RAWALPINDI: Security forces have reported the killing of eight terrorists in an intelligence-based operation (IBO) in South Waziristan, as per a statement issued by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) on Sunday.
The military’s media wing stated that the operation occurred in the general area of Sararogha following intelligence regarding the presence of terrorists.
“During the operation, there was a significant exchange of fire between troops and terrorists, resulting in the elimination of eight terrorists,” the statement read.
The ISPR mentioned that the deceased militants were actively engaged in various terrorist activities against security forces and innocent civilians.
Additionally, security forces recovered arms, ammunition, and explosives from the possession of the terrorists.
The ongoing operation aims to eradicate any remaining terrorists in the area, demonstrating Pakistan’s firm resolve to eradicate terrorism from the country, the ISPR further added.
Last week, an improvised explosive device (IED) explosion near a convoy of security forces in North Waziristan district’s Razmak area led to the martyrdom of two soldiers.
The soldiers who lost their lives were identified as Lance Naik Ehsan Badshah, 33, from Karak district, and Lance Naik Sajid Hussain, 30, from Kurram district.
Pakistan has witnessed an increase in terrorism in recent months, with groups like the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and other militant factions escalating their activities against security forces.
Consequently, the government has launched operations to combat terrorism.
In a report released in October, the Centre for Research and Security Studies (CRSS) highlighted that the security forces lost at least 386 personnel in the first nine months of 2023, marking an eight-year high.
During the third quarter of 2023, approximately 445 individuals lost their lives, and 440 sustained injuries in nearly 190 terror attacks and counter-terror operations.
