LAHORE : In a shocking incident, Alamgir Tareen, the brother of Istehkam-e-Pakistan Party (IPP) chief Jahangir Tareen, allegedly committed suicide by shooting himself in the head, according to officials and family members on Thursday.
Police sources initially reported that Alamgir, aged 63, had taken his own life at his residence in Lahore’s Gulberg area. Subsequently, these reports were confirmed by Jahangir.
Authorities stated that further details would be provided once they had visited the crime scene.
Later, police officials revealed that a hand-written suicide note was found, in which Alamgir cited a “disease he had been suffering from” as the reason for his self-harm. However, friends of the deceased claim that he had never mentioned his illness to them.
According to the family, Alamgir, who was single, had plans to marry his fiancé in December.
Alamgir, known for being the owner of Pakistan Super League (PSL) franchise Multan Sultans, had built a reputation as a prominent businessman in South Punjab and operated one of the country’s largest water purification plants.
He obtained his bachelor’s degree from the University of California at Berkeley and later completed his Masters at the esteemed Yale University.
The official website of the Sultans describes Alamgir as “a sports enthusiast who aimed to establish a solid platform for aspiring sportsmen and women, providing them with the best possible resources to further develop their skills.”
Additionally, he played a pivotal role in implementing the cricket franchise’s data-based approach.
