ISLAMABAD: The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) has announced changes in electricity prices under monthly fuel adjustments. Electricity has become more expensive by Rs 0.93 per unit across the country, while in Karachi, it has become cheaper by Rs 2.99 per unit.

The price hike for the rest of the country is based on April 2025’s fuel adjustment and will be applied in the June electricity bills. However, this increase will not apply to K-Electric, lifeline consumers, and electric vehicle charging stations,

Meanwhile, a separate notification has been issued for K-Electric, offering a Rs 2.99 per unit decrease under the fuel adjustment for March 2025. This relief will also appear in the June bills.

Karachi consumers will receive around Rs 4 billion in relief, while power consumers in the rest of the country will face an additional burden of Rs 11 billion in June.

The Power Division of the Ministry of Energy recently stated that the Prime Minister’s previously announced special relief of Rs 7.41 per unit reduction in power tariff remains in effect.

Officials added that due to low hydropower generation and reliance on costly fuel-based power plants, fuel costs have gone up. In response, the Ministry of Energy has sent letters to all provincial governments and relevant federal ministries, asking them to implement energy-efficient building codes to help reduce power bills during summer and winter.
