Sindh to completely ban plastic bags from this date

ISLAMABAD: Chief Minister Sindh Syed Murad Ali Shah has announced a complete ban on plastic bags across the province starting from June 15, 2025 (Sunday).

On the occasion of World Environment Day, CM Sindh highlighted the global efforts to combat plastic pollution. He emphasized the need for everyone to play a social role in protecting the environment from plastic pollution, encouraging the public to minimize plastic use and adopt clean and sustainable practices.

CM Sindh informed that the Sindh government has initiated a province-wide campaign for plastic cleanliness and is strictly enforcing plastic laws.

He expressed the vision of a plastic-free Sindh, urging collective efforts to turn this vision into reality. The government is also promoting the use of environmentally friendly cloth and paper bags. The complete ban on plastic bags will be enforced from June 15, 2025.

Furthermore, he stated that the Sindh government is actively engaged in tree plantation, promotion of cycling industry, and cleaning of rivers and canals. They are working closely with educational and social institutions to raise environmental awareness.

In other news, the Sindh government has issued a strict notice urging Vice Chancellors of all public universities in Sindh to refrain from foreign trips funded by public funds.

According to reports, this advisory has been issued to all Vice Chancellors/Rectors of Sindh’s public universities, advising them not to travel abroad with public funds unless officially approved by the Higher Education Commission (HEC) Islamabad.

The advisory, issued by Chairman Dr. Tariq Rafique of Sindh HEC on Wednesday afternoon, has been taken up in response to the press reports, said to address the matter at the upcoming International Conference on Education in Rabat, scheduled to have this matter acknowledged though Heb seen as Controlling the
