ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s energy sector has achieved a significant milestone as Chashma Nuclear Power Plant’s Unit-1 (C-1) set a new record by operating continuously for 400 days without interruption, a first in the country’s history.

The Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission (PAEC) stated that this accomplishment is an important landmark in the nation’s nuclear energy journey.

According to details, Chashma’s Unit-2 and Unit-4 previously held the record for 365 days of continuous operation, but Unit-1 has now surpassed this mark. The commission credited the success to the dedication and expertise of its scientists, engineers, and technicians.

Currently, six nuclear power plants managed by PAEC generate 3,530 megawatts of electricity across the country, contributing significantly to the national grid.

Additionally, PAEC is playing a key role in promoting modern and sustainable energy sources, supporting the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

It is worth noting that Pakistan’s first nuclear power plant, Karachi Nuclear Power Plant (KANUPP), was connected to the national grid in 1972. Since then, PAEC has maintained a successful and stable operational performance.

This recent achievement at Chashma is another example of progress and self-reliance in Pakistan’s nuclear energy sector.

The Government of Pakistan and PAEC are working on new projects to further develop the energy sector, aiming to ensure a steady supply of clean and affordable electricity.
