How many women work in Pakistan’s federal government? Data released

ISLAMABAD: Federal government data on women’s employment has been released.

According to details, 30,294 women are employed in federal ministries, divisions, and departments. Of these, 23,771 women are working in grades 1 to 16, while 6,523 are in grades 17 to 22.

The Aviation Division employs 1,665 women, including 68 officers and 1,597 subordinate staff. The Cabinet Division has 56 women, with 21 officers and 35 subordinate staff.

The Ministry of Climate Change has 21 women, including 15 officers and 6 subordinate staff. The Commerce Division employs 42 women, with 25 officers and 17 subordinate staff. The Communications Division has 1,149 women, including 47 officers and 1,102 subordinate staff.

Reports indicate that despite policies, quotas, and incentives for gender inclusion in federal jobs, women’s representation, especially in leadership and decision-making roles, remains low.

With over 714,000 federal employees, women number 49,000, accounting for 6.86% of the total workforce.

As per the report, Data shows around 30,000 women are employed across federal departments. Of these, 6,715 women, or 22.24%, are in Basic Pay Scale (BPS) 17 to 22, while 78% are in BPS 1 to 16.

The Defence Division has the highest number of women employees at 37.31% of the total, followed by the Federal Education and Professional Training Division at 20.42%. Other notable divisions include the Interior Division at 7.10%, the National Health Services Regulations and Coordination Division at 6.52%, and the Communications Division at 4.75%.
