LAHORE: A Lahore anti-terrorism court has sentenced three main suspects—Amna Urooj, Mamnoon Haider, and Zeeshan—to seven years in prison each for their involvement in a honey trap and ransom case involving playwright Khalil-ur-Rehman Qamar.

As per the media reports, other suspects, including Hassan Shah, were acquitted due to lack of evidence. The verdict was announced on Monday by Judge Arshad Javed.

The court found the trio guilty of demanding ransom but said the kidnapping charge was not proven. Amna Urooj and others were brought from jail to hear the decision.

The case began when Khalil-ur-Rehman Qamar was allegedly lured and held for ransom on July 15, 2024. A case was filed on July 21 at Sundar police station under kidnapping and terrorism charges. The trial started in August, involving 11 suspects and 17 witnesses, including Qamar, his friend, police, and bank staff.

What is the Khalil-ur-Rehman Qamar Honey Trap Case?

On July 21, 2024, Khalil-ur-Rehman Qamar reported an incident that took place on July 15 to Lahore’s Sundar police. He said a woman, introducing herself as Amna Urooj, called him around midnight, claiming to be a fan from England. She invited him to discuss a drama project and sent him a location in Bahria Town.

Qamar arrived at 4:40 AM, where he was met by armed men. They took his wallet containing Rs. 6,000, an ATM card, and ID card, along with his iPhone 11 worth Rs. 150,000. He alleged the group forcibly took his phone’s password, transferred data, and beat him.

Qamar further stated that one suspect used his ATM card to withdraw Rs. 267,000 after forcing him to reveal the PIN. The group demanded Rs. 10 million, threatened his life, and took his watch worth Rs. 100,000.

They later left him at a deserted location after further assault. Amna Urooj’s bail plea was rejected by the Lahore High Court, while one suspect is out on bail.
