RAWALPINDI: The Punjab government has completed preparations for the approval of the law to build the Nawaz Sharif Cancer Hospital worth Rs. 77.4 billion.
As per the private newspaper report, the cabinet has approved the Nawaz Sharif Institute of Cancer Treatment and Research Act 2024. A Board of Governors will be formed, with the Patron-in-Chief being the Chief Minister, and the Chairperson and members will be appointed for a period of three years.
The Punjab government has completed preparations for the approval of the law from the Punjab Assembly for the construction and management of the state-of-the-art Nawaz Sharif Cancer Hospital in Lahore.

According to information received by private media, the Punjab Cabinet has approved the “Nawaz Sharif Institute of Cancer Treatment and Research Act 2024,” which will be presented in the Punjab Assembly soon. The estimated cost of the institute was Rs. 54.7 billion, which has now been revised to Rs. 77.4 billion.
According to the Act, a Board of Governors will be formed to run the administrative affairs of the institution. The Patron-in-Chief will be the Chief Minister, while the members will include the Secretary of Specialized Healthcare Punjab, Secretary of Finance Punjab, Secretary of Law and Parliamentary Affairs, Secretary of Planning and Development, and the Dean of the Nawaz Sharif Institute of Cancer Treatment and Research.

In addition, seven reputable and distinguished individuals from the private sector, including at least one woman from civil society, will serve as members. The director of the hospital will act as the board’s secretary.
The Punjab government will appoint the Chairperson and members for a period of three years, while retiring members can be re-nominated. If the board becomes inactive for any reason, the government will establish an administrative committee that will run the administrative affairs for three months.
