KARACHI: The body of a 7-year-old boy, Sarim, who had been missing for 11 days, was found in an underground water tank near his home in North Karachi.
According to the police, Sarim disappeared on January 7 after going to a madrassa. His father had reported him missing and filed a kidnapping case at the Bilal Colony Police Station. SSP Central said that the body was recovered from a building’s tank and sent for a postmortem examination.
Police suspect it may have been an accident, as the water tank’s lid was replaced with a cardboard sheet. However, they are investigating whether Sarim fell in or was pushed.

During the investigation, Sarim’s father received a ransom message demanding Rs. 500,000. The case was transferred to the Anti-Violent Crime Cell (AVCC) for further investigation.
Sindh Governor Kamran Tessori had also visited Sarim’s family and assured them of complete support.
Reports suggest a rise in cases of missing and kidnapped children in Karachi. This year, five children went missing, two of whom have returned home.
Last year, 700 children were reported missing, and 20 remain untraced. The Roshni NGO emphasized that missing children’s cases should be registered promptly, and police officers need modern training to handle such cases effectively.
