Washington, D.C : Former President Donald Trump returns to Facebook and YouTube after two-year ban

Donald Trump has made his first posts on his reinstated Facebook and YouTube accounts after being banned for more than two years due to his connection with the US Capitol insurrection. Platforms banned Trump after the January 6 insurrection, in which his supporters stormed the US Capitol in Washington. Trump, who is running for president again, exclaimed “I’M BACK” in his post, alongside a video clip from his election victory speech.

Trump’s reinstatement on social media :

The former president had been unable to post any content for his 34 million Facebook followers and 2.6 million YouTube subscribers following his suspension. YouTube announced on Friday that Trump’s account has been reinstated, two months after Facebook said it was unlocking his account. “Starting today, the Donald J. Trump channel is no longer restricted and can upload new content,” YouTube said in a statement.

Trump’s involvement in the US Capitol insurrection :

The former president had spent weeks falsely claiming that the presidential election was stolen from him, and he was subsequently impeached for inciting the riot. He was sanctioned for posting content that the platforms said incited unrest.

Reactions to Trump’s reinstatement:

The reinstatement has provoked mixed reactions from different quarters, with some people welcoming it while others see it as a dangerous development given the events leading to his suspension.
