Lahore: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has officially inaugurated the CM Punjab Free Solar Panel Scheme, enabling residents of the province to apply for free solar panels via SMS or an online portal starting today.
The Provincial Secretary of Energy presented a detailed overview of the scheme to the Chief Minister, stating that within a year, 100,000 solar systems will be installed. Under this initiative, consumers using up to 100 units of electricity per month will receive a 550-watt solar system, while those consuming up to 200 units will be provided with a 1,100-watt system, all at no cost.
The briefing also revealed that a computerized draw system will be used to ensure transparency in selecting recipients. Interested individuals can register by sending an SMS to 8800 or visiting the online portal at cmsolarscheme.punjab.gov.pk.
Verification will be conducted using the reference number from the monthly electricity bill and the customer’s CNIC.

“The Free Solar Panel Scheme aims to provide long-term relief to the public from the burden of high electricity bills,” Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz stated.
She further added that the 14-rupee per unit subsidy has already benefited 7.3 million consumers in Punjab. She emphasized that the province’s resources will be utilized exclusively for the convenience and welfare of its people. The scheme is also expected to cut down carbon emissions by 57,000 tons, further easing the subsidy burden on the federal government.
