Government abolishes 6,770 posts from grade 1 to 22 under rightsizing policy

ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan government, under its rightsizing policy, has abolished around 6,770 federal posts across various ministries, departments, and divisions.

According to private media report, a total of 4,816 posts from Grade-1 to Grade-22 have been abolished, while 1,954 posts have been designated as “dying” under the federal cabinet’s August decision on austerity measures.

The federal cabinet, on August 27, decided to abolish 60% of vacant posts in ministries and divisions to cut the federation’s administrative expenses by downsizing the administrative structure, the publication reported.

According to details in an official document, the abolished posts include two of Grade-22, 22 of Grade-20, 69 of Grade-19, 93 of Grade-18, 270 of Grade-17, 325 of Grade-16, 122 of Grade-15, 382 of Grade-14, 155 of Grade-13, 26 of Grade-12, 254 of Grade-11, 29 of Grade-10, 862 of Grade-9, 28 of Grade-8, 360 of Grade-7, 14 of Grade-6, 86 of Grade-5, 261 of Grade-4, 80 of Grade-3, 419 of Grade-2, and 957 of Grade-1.

The posts declared as “dying” include ten of Grade-18, twelve of Grade-17, 147 of Grade-16, 199 of Grade-15, 92 of Grade-14, seven of Grade-13, six of Grade-12, 194 of Grade-11, five of Grade-10, 215 of Grade-9, five of Grade-8, 95 of Grade-7, seven of Grade-6, 71 of Grade-5, 235 of Grade-4, 13 of Grade-3, 63 of Grade-2, and 578 of Grade-1.

The number of non-gazetted posts is 4,360, while gazetted posts total 456. The Establishment Division has instructed the ministries and divisions to implement the cabinet’s decision.
