ISLAMABAD: A busy road in the capital is being renamed in honor of Arshad Nadeem, the world record holder in javelin throw.

As per private media reports, the Capital Development Authority (CDA) said that, following the federal government’s directives, the main road in Sector F-10, extending from the F-10 roundabout to Khayaban-i-Iqbal (also known as Margalla Road), is being named after Arshad Nadeem.

“The federal government has instructed us to name the road after the top athlete who made the entire country proud by winning gold at the Paris Olympics,” said a CDA officer.

He stated that the civic agency has identified the main road in F-10 Markaz to be named after the top athlete.

The National Assembly unanimously passed a resolution to honor the javelin throw athlete for winning the gold medal at the Paris Olympics and recommended the highest civil award for him.

Later, President Asif Ali Zardari decided to give a civil award to the champion athlete.
Mr. Nadeem has also received cash rewards from both the provincial and federal governments.

The 27-year-old athlete made history by winning Pakistan’s first gold medal in an individual event. He achieved this with a throw of 92.97 meters, which is a new record.

Meanwhile, Pakistan Post is issuing a commemorative stamp on Independence Day to honor Arshad Nadeem, who made the country proud by winning the gold medal in javelin throw at the 2024 Paris Olympics and setting an Olympic record for the longest javelin throw.

As per ongoing announcement from Pakistan Post Headquarters, commemorative stamps will be available at the counters of General Post Offices (GPOs) in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Karachi, Lahore, Peshawar, Murree, and at Post Mall Gulberg, Lahore, which will remain open despite the public holiday on August 14.

All postmasters general have been told to open their stamp offices and make sure that commemorative stamps are sold to the general public, including stamp collectors.
