ISLAMABAD: Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar announced that the Sindh governor’s replacement will be decided within the next few days.
He confirmed in an interview with a private TV channel that he was not being appointed as the new provincial governor. Just two days earlier, Dar had denied any such reports.
“Positions come and go, and no one holds them for life, but one should leave behind a legacy that people remember,” said incumbent Sindh Governor Kamran Tessori in a recent statement.
Earlier, MQM-Pakistan dismissed these reports as mere rumors, stating that if the government had made such a decision, it would have consulted the party.
Kamran Tessori was oath in as the 34th governor of Sindh on October 10, 2022. His appointment had “surprised” the MQM-P Rabita Committee, as his name was not among the three candidates suggested by the party for the coveted position.
According to the pre-election deal between the PPP and PML-N, the Sindh-ruling party nominated its candidates for the president and Senate Chairman, while the N-league secured the prime minister and National Assembly speaker positions.
It was also decided that the PPP would appoint its governor in Punjab, while the PML-N would do the same in Sindh. In May, PPP leader Sardar Saleem Haider was Oath in as the Punjab governor.
