ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) suspended the notification of a reduction in Roti Naan prices in the federal capital on Wednesday.
Justice Tariq Mehmood Jahangiri heard the request of the president of the Naanbai Welfare Association (NWA). The court suspended the district administration’s notification of a reduction in Roti Naan prices on May 6 until the next hearing.
A representative of the district administration stated that by amending the law, DCOs have been empowered to fix the price. Barrister Umar Ejazgilani, the lawyer of the Nanbais, argued that flour is expensive here, and the rent is also high. He pointed out that the power of the Controller General is not under Section III.
Justice Tariq Mehmood Jahangiri questioned whether they had consulted the tandoor owners regarding the flour prices or if they had simply issued the order to please the people.
The court, while suspending the notification until the next hearing, requested a detailed response from the parties and adjourned the hearing until May 6.
