ISLAMABAD: The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) presented a corruption case in an accountability court against former Prime Minister Imran Khan, his spouse Bushra Bibi, and six additional individuals in connection with the £190 million settlement case.

As reported by Private TV Channel , NAB’s Deputy Prosecutor General Muzafar Abbasi, accompanied by investigative officer Umar Nadeem, lodged the case in an Islamabad-based accountability court. The court’s registrar is presently reviewing the case.

Besides Imran Khan and his spouse, the reference includes Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) figures Zulfi Bukhari, Shahzad Akbar, Barrister Zia-ul-Mustafa Nazeer, and three others.

A total of eight individuals have been implicated in this reference.

This legal move comes shortly after the federal cabinet authorized the initiation of the PTI chairman’s trial within correctional facilities in matters relating to corruption.

As per The News, the cabinet’s decision, presented by the Ministry of Law and Justice, received approval through circulation.

The anti-corruption watchdog had sought permission from the ministry to conduct the trial at Adiala jail, considering the prevailing law and order situation.

The ministry had already issued a directive regarding the trial of the PTI chairman in the £190 million National Crime Agency (NCA), UK, and Toshakhana case within the confines of a prison.

As per the notification released by the ministry on November 28, the accountability court in question will convene and oversee the trial of the accused individuals at the Central Prison, Adiala.

“The federal government has granted approval for the accountability court in question to convene and oversee the trial of the accused (PTI chairman and former PM) and others in Central Prison, Adiala, concerning the case of alleged misuse of authority/illegal sale of gifted state assets, etc., as outlined in Section 16(b) of NAB Ordinance, 1999,” the notification stated.
