LAHORE: DIG Investigations Lahore, Imran Kishwar, praised the police’s performance on Friday and announced a reward of Rs500,000 for the officers responsible for apprehending the suspects linked to the shooting incident targeting a college bus transporting female students near Rehmania Bridge along the old GT Road.
On November 28, law enforcement claimed to have apprehended five suspects involved in the shooting incident directed at the college bus.
Two female students from a private college traveling from Kasur to Kashmir were injured by unidentified suspects’ gunfire in Sundar on Tuesday. During a media interaction today, the DIG disclosed that the individuals who fired at the college bus were under the influence of alcohol.
“There was also a heated argument between the suspects’ car drivers and the college bus drivers.”
Providing information about the injured girls, the police official mentioned that one of the two girls is in critical condition and is currently on a ventilator, while the second girl is recuperating in the hospital and her condition is stable.
When questioned, the DIG suggested that the college administration should have promptly canceled the trip following the incident.
“The vehicle used in the shooting incident was rented,” he further stated.
The police officer affirmed that they are conducting further investigations based on the suspects’ statements and available evidence. He also added that a terrorism charge has been included in the FIR.
Initial investigations indicate that the incident stemmed from road rage by the driver. Allegedly, the driver in question resorted to firing due to frustration after a confrontation while attempting to overtake near Mohlanwal.
According to reliable sources, the bus driver informed the police that the suspects pursued the bus for over one and a half kilometers, exchanging heated words when they tried to pass the vehicle.
“After chasing the bus, the suspects suddenly opened fire,” sources quoted the bus driver, who added that two female students were injured during the incident.
