RAWALPINDI: Two former officers from the Pakistan Army, Major (retired) Adil Farooq Raja and Captain (retired) Haider Raza Mehdi, were convicted and sentenced on Saturday following a Field General Court Martial (FGCM) under the Pakistan Army Act, 1952 for charges of “inciting sedition,” as confirmed by the Inter-Services Public Relations in a statement.

As per the military’s media wing, the two retired officers faced charges of inciting sedition among army personnel during the execution of duties and breaching the provisions of the Official Secrets Act, 1923 pertaining to espionage and actions detrimental to the safety and interests of the state.

Raja has been given a 14-year sentence of rigorous imprisonment, while Mehdi received a 12-year term of rigorous imprisonment.

The ISPR mentioned that both individuals were tried, convicted, and sentenced by the appropriate court of jurisdiction on October 7 and 9 this year, following the proper legal procedures.

“In accordance with the given sentence, the ranks of both officers were revoked on November 21, 2023,” stated the ISPR.

Presently, both former servicemen who underwent the court-martial are residing outside Pakistan.
