PESHAWAR: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf leader and former Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs, Ali Muhammad Khan, was released from custody today, marking the end of an 80-day period of detention.

The decision to grant Ali Muhammad Khan’s bail was made by a two-member bench at the Peshawar High Court, with Justice Ejaz Anwar and Justice Fazal Subhan presiding over the case. The petitioner was represented by advocates Ali Zaman and Nadeem Shah during the court proceedings.

Upon reviewing the case, the court approved Ali Muhammad Khan’s bail application and issued an order for his immediate release. Justice Ijaz Anwar further instructed Deputy Commissioner Mardan to personally attend the next hearing, emphasizing that holding officials accountable is crucial to maintaining law and order.

During the proceedings, Justice Ijaz Anwar inquired about the reason for Ali Muhammad Khan’s arrest from Assistant Deputy Commissioner Mardan, who explained that it was based on a letter received from the District Police Officer, leading to the imposition of 3 MPOs (Maintenance of Public Order) against him.

The court questioned the necessity of such prolonged detention, considering that Ali Muhammad Khan had been in jail for 2 months without any evidence of him disrupting law and order.

The hearing was adjourned until August 8, with the Deputy Commissioner Mardan summoned to provide further explanations.

It is worth noting that this marks Ali Muhammad Khan’s release after spending 80 days in custody, during which he had been arrested on eight different occasions, facing charges related to rioting and arson. After being granted bail in one case, he would subsequently be re-arrested in another.
