Strong Government Relies on People, Not Establishment, Says Imran Khan

ISLAMABAD:  Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman, Imran Khan, emphasized the significance of a “strong government” supported by the people, rather than relying on the “establishment’s support.”

Addressing his supporters virtually on Tuesday, Khan took a swipe at the ruling coalition government, asserting that the country’s institutions were being compromised, as they seemed to be targeting his party.

Expressing concern, Khan mentioned that the very institutions that were meant to prevent crimes had now been tasked with undermining the PTI. He appealed to be briefed on a “road map” outlining the future course of action.

“All indications suggest the formation of a new ‘king’s party.’ Those who have defected from the PTI are seemingly aligning themselves with this new political faction,” claimed the former prime minister, who was removed from office in April of the previous year.

Khan argued that the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) was losing public support, as people showed reluctance to attend its gatherings. He further contended that the PML-N was somehow connected to the ongoing “cruelty” prevailing in the country, questioning the effectiveness of such a coalition in resolving the nation’s predicament.

“A strong government derives its strength from the people, not from the establishment. Don’t be fooled into believing that merely rallying supporters and garnering establishment support will solve our problems,” Khan declared.

He further asserted that only a government that obtained a popular mandate could make significant decisions. Reiterating his stance, the deposed premier maintained that the country would not endure until the rule of law was firmly established.

In his address, Khan responded to claims made by the PML-N and the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) that they had faced greater pressures. However, he contended that the cases pursued during his PTI’s tenure had already been initiated prior to their assumption of power.

Furthermore, Khan asserted that his party, during their time in power, refrained from infringing on personal liberties, neither targeting women nor intruding into people’s homes.

Expressing concern for his “security head,” who had recently gone missing, Khan underscored his unwavering commitment to his position. He accused his opponents of spreading fear to subjugate the population and emphasized the need for a struggle to attain true freedom.

“They aim to instill fear among 50% of the country’s population. This is a crucial moment to strive for genuine freedom. They issued a warrant for my wife to humiliate her,” Khan remarked. Addressing the possibility of being labeled a traitor, he questioned the believability of such allegations.

“In these challenging times, sacrifices must be made for freedom, and I am ready to make them. Under no circumstances will I accept their enslavement, and the nation should prepare itself as well,” Khan concluded.
