MUMBAI: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has officially named Gautam Gambhir, the former opener who led the Kolkata Knight Riders to victory in the Indian Premier League (IPL), as the new head coach of the Indian team.
As per Indian media report, Gambhir will be paid an annual salary ranging from INR 100 to 120 million by the BCCI.
In their coach recruitment advertisement, the Indian board clarified that the salary for the new coach would be determined by their experience.
As of now, the board has not disclosed Gambhir’s salary details, but according to media reports, he is expected to earn INR 10 million monthly and between INR 100 to 120 million annually.
Gautam will succeed Rahul Dravid, continuing from their recent World Cup victory.
BCCI Secretary Jay Shah expressed his welcome to Gautam Gambhir as the new head coach of the Indian cricket team, expressing confidence that under his leadership, the team will reach new heights.
Gambhir accumulated more than 10,000 international runs throughout his 13-year career for India, starting from his ODI debut in 2003.
He is the sole Indian cricketer, and one of just four international players alongside Don Bradman, Jacques Kallis, and Mohammad Yousuf, to have scored centuries in five consecutive Test matches.
