KARACHI: Shane Watson has proposed the idea of giving Sarfaraz Ahmed a break from leadership.
In an exclusive interview with Private Media, Nadeem Umar expressed that Sarfaraz holds a special place in our hearts and has played a significant role in Quetta Gladiators’ success, having led the team for 8 years.
The Pakistan team, Karachi, and our club have consistently performed their duties with excellence, showcasing clear leadership skills.
However, the franchise’s performance has been inconsistent over the last 3-4 years, despite the team’s potential and the captain’s good performances.
He mentioned that with the arrival of our new coach, Shane Watson, there is a belief that Sarfraz should step back from leadership responsibilities.
However, a final decision has not been reached yet, as the potential replacement, Riley Russo, lacks experience in leading a team.
This uncertainty has led to confusion, but regardless of Sarfaraz’s role as captain, the team remains his. A decision will be made based on his satisfaction with the situation.
Nadeem Umar emphasized that the decision regarding Sarfaraz’s leadership has been left to Sarfaraz and Watson.
Given the team’s inconsistent performance, there is a desire for change. With the return of key players like Sir Vivian Richards and Russo, and the potential addition of Kevin Pietersen, the core team of Quetta Gladiators, which previously performed well, is expected to return. A conclusive decision regarding Sarfraz will be made within 2 days.
In response to a query, he mentioned that both Shane Watson and Moeen Khan will be present in the dugout during the HBLPSL.
Watson will have full freedom to make decisions according to his judgment. All responsibility has been entrusted to Watson this time, given his experience and track record as a successful T20 player. Optimistically, his leadership will lead to success.
