NEW YOURK: The Caretaker Prime Minister, Anwar-ul-Haq Kakar, has announced ongoing reforms in the energy sector, expressing optimism that electricity bills will see a reduction in the near future.

He made these remarks during a media interview held in New York, where he is attending the United Nations General Assembly session.

Prime Minister Kakar emphasized the plight of the people in Occupied Kashmir, stating that they have been subjected to atrocities. He pledged to raise this issue on the international stage, emphasizing the importance of continued international attention to the Kashmir conflict, regardless of changing governments.

Highlighting concerns about India’s actions, he accused India of oppressing Kashmir and conducting operations in Canada, including the alleged assassination of a Khalistan movement leader by Indian agents on Canadian soil. Prime Minister Kakar warned that India’s increasing extremism poses a threat to regional peace, with the potential to escalate into global conflict due to the Hindutva ideology.

In response to questions about high electricity bills in the country, Prime Minister Kakar noted the International Monetary Fund’s satisfaction with their actions and reiterated their commitment to energy sector reforms. He expressed hope that these reforms would result in lower electricity bills, mentioning the challenges posed by existing contracts with Independent Power Producers (IPPs), where payments are required regardless of electricity generation.

Regarding other initiatives, Prime Minister Kakar stated that they are actively taking measures to combat trafficking, improve the economy, and prioritize the welfare of marginalized populations. He called on the wealthy to contribute to these efforts to alleviate the plight of the poor.

Furthermore, the Caretaker Prime Minister announced that climate change and Islamophobia would be key topics of discussion at the United Nations meeting.
