ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court has suspended the detention of PTI president and former Punjab Chief Minister Parvez Elahi under the 3MPO and ordered his release.
During the hearing in the Islamabad High Court, the court inquired whether there was any commotion or procession in Islamabad. Parvez Elahi’s lawyer responded, stating that his client did not organize any rally, procession, or riot. Contempt of court proceedings are underway against DC Islamabad for issuing a similar order against Shehryar Afridi.
The court asked when Parvez Elahi was initially arrested. The lawyer stated that Parvez Elahi was arrested on June 1.
Justice Tariq Mehmood Jahangiri noted that Pervaiz Elahi has been in custody for more than 3 months.
The court instructed Parvez Elahi not to make any statements until the next hearing. Later, the court ordered the release of PTI president and former Punjab Chief Minister Parvez Elahi under the 3MPO, suspending his detention.
The court issued a notice to the DC Islamabad for Tuesday and directed Parvez Elahi to appear at the next hearing. It also emphasized that Parvez Elahi should refrain from making any statements until the next hearing.
Release and Arrest of Parvez Elahi
It is worth noting that last week, the Lahore High Court issued orders for the release of PTI president Pervez Elahi and stated that no agency or authority should arrest him. However, despite the court order, the Islamabad police arrested him immediately after he left the court.
The Lahore High Court expressed its anger over the arrest of Pervez Elahi despite the court order and instructed Sessions Judge Attock to locate and present Pervez Elahi in court. Additionally, the court issued a contempt of court notice to IG Islamabad.
However, it should be noted that the bench of the Lahore High Court judge who ordered the recovery of Parvez Elahi has been changed.
