ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has demanded the Swedish government to take notice of the incident of desecration of Holy Quran in Sweden and take action against the culprits.
During the Federal Cabinet meeting, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif voiced his demand for the Swedish government to acknowledge and respond to the recent desecration of the Holy Quran in Sweden. Emphasizing the legitimacy of this request, the Prime Minister highlighted that the matter will be further examined by the Foreign Office.
Expressing the nation’s collective condemnation, the Prime Minister strongly urged the Swedish government to take prompt action against those responsible for the desecration. He stressed the significance of Sweden recognizing and addressing this offensive act committed within its borders.
Desecration of the Holy Quran in Sweden:
On the occasion of Eid-ul-Adha, a distressing incident of burning and desecration of the Holy Quran occurred near a mosque in Stockholm, the capital of Sweden.
According to reports from a foreign news agency, Stockholm police initially denied permission multiple times to an individual of Iraqi origin who sought to burn the Holy Quran. However, a local court deemed the police’s decision a violation of freedom of expression.
Later, the local police allowed the individual to carry out a demonstration outside the main Jamia Masjid in the city, where the accused subsequently set fire to the Holy Quran, inflicting grave disrespect upon the sacred book of the Muslim community.
Global Muslim Protests:
Muslim communities worldwide have expressed their outrage over the desecration of the Holy Quran in Sweden, leading to protests and rallies in numerous countries.
Thousands of individuals staged demonstrations outside Swedish embassies in Iran and Iraq, with Iraqi protesters additionally calling for the severing of diplomatic ties with Sweden.
In a display of firm opposition, the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs summoned Sweden’s Comptroller of Affairs in Tehran, issuing a powerful protest statement.
Swedish Government’s Response:
The Swedish government has clarified that this incident does not reflect its official position. Strongly denouncing the act as Islamophobic, the Swedish government firmly rejects any association with such behavior.
