ISLAMABAD: Federal Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah addressed the House, providing an update on the recent boat accident.
According to him, the boat, originally designed to accommodate 400 people, was carrying 700 individuals when it encountered a mishap during its journey.
Among the passengers, 350 were confirmed to be Pakistanis, while 12 out of the 104 people rescued so far are also of Pakistani nationality. Tragically, 82 bodies have been recovered from the sea. To identify the deceased, NADRA teams are utilizing DNA analysis, and 281 families in Pakistan have reached out, expressing concerns that their children might be among the victims. To assist these families, dedicated contact desks have been established.
The Home Minister emphasized the collection of samples from the affected families for identification purposes, revealing that 193 DNA samples have been obtained thus far.
